I am the mother of three American girls. My youngest daughter, Karen saved her own money to buy her Molly doll. One of her cousins had Kirsten, and another had Samantha. The girls played endlessly with their dolls. For Christmas, Molly and Karen each received a new matching outfit.
Karen, a reluctant reader, enjoyed reading her Molly books. Then she went on to read many other American Girl books.
Meet Molly is the first book in the series of stories about Molly McIntire. Molly's dad is a doctor in the Army. While he is away in England, her mother is working for the Red Cross. America was a much different place to live during World War 2. People had to sacrifice for the war effort. Molly and her friends put together costumes for Halloween, out of things they had around the house. As many girls find out, it is sometimes hard to live with an older brother.
